Neurectomy

Navicular syndrome is a frequent cause of chronic foot pain in horses. If the combination of medical treatment and orthopedic shoeing fails to provide sufficient comfort to the patient, a low palmar neurectomy can be considered.

Dr. Tom Mariën has developed a new technique with less risk of neuroma formation. Neurectomy must be avoided with horses with laminitis or lesions at the deep digital flexor tendon.
