Equitom's Equine Diagnostic Center is a global leader in equine medical imaging, equipped with cutting-edge technology across nuclear medicine, MRI, and CT modalities. Our advanced imaging systems allow us to identify the precise location and severity of injuries with exceptional accuracy.
Certain bone lesions may go undetected on standard radiographs and require high-resolution CT (computed tomography) scans for in-depth evaluation. At our clinic, we house a powerful wide-bore helical CT scanner for comprehensive imaging and CT-guided surgical procedures under general anesthesia. For standing examinations, we utilize a state-of-the-art, robotics-controlled cone beam CT scanner—offering a less invasive alternative.
These standing CT scans are frequently paired with standing MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), which provides detailed insight into soft tissue injuries that cannot be clearly assessed via ultrasound or in cases involving bone marrow-like edema. The combination of standing MRI and CT delivers unparalleled detail in diagnosing complex bone and soft tissue conditions.
In equine medicine, performance issues or lameness often require a broader view. For these cases, scintigraphy also know as bone scan or NM, nuclear medicine) is employed to examine the entire skeletal system and detect areas of increased bone activity or inflammation.
