At Equitom, the Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation department is led by Lothar Vanslambrouck DVM, together with an experienced team of specialists. Whether it’s a sport horse that needs to return to peak condition or a leisure horse with recurring issues – your horse always deserves the best care.

The combination of international experience, expertise and a down-to-earth approach makes the Equitom veterinary team highly valued across disciplines. Honest and accurate advice tailored with targeted follow-up and/or rehabilitation is the cornerstone of our sports guidance.

Lothar and his team focus primarily on preventive equine medicine based on accurate diagnosis and the best possible innovative, international, regenerative equine treatments and supplements.

Thanks to our knowledge of modern imaging and continuous search for better treatment methods, the Orthopaedics team ensures an effective treatment plan, fully tailored to the needs of you and your horse.

Accurate diagnosis thanks to modern infrastructure
Equitom offers extensive facilities to support diagnosis, including:
• A covered straight line and lunging circle with both hard and soft surfaces
• An ebb & flow indoor arena (25m x 50m) for ridden examinations
• Spacious consultation rooms
• Advanced imaging such as radiography (including neck/back), ultrasound & UTC

An orthopaedic examination typically lasts 1 to 2 hours and follows these steps:

  1. Anamnesis: The vet discusses the horse’s medical history. Previous reports are very welcome.
  2. Inspection & Palpation: The horse is assessed at rest and in motion; local anaesthetic techniques may be recommended. Ridden examination can be crucial for rider, owner, and vet.
  3. Medical Imaging: Conventional techniques like digital radiography and ultrasound/UTC form the basis. In collaboration with our Equine Diagnostic Centre, further imaging (scintigraphy, MRI, and/or (robotic) CT scan) may be advised.

Tip: If your horse shows symptoms mainly under saddle, bring your saddle or record a video in advance.
