Diastemas

Diastema's

Diastemas occur when the teeth do not fit together properly, creating gaps between the teeth where food can get stuck. This can lead to severe inflammation of the gums. We see this issue in both young horses during the shedding of teeth and in horses with poor dental implantation, but it is also common in older horses. If diastemas are not noticed in time, they can lead to infections of the tooth roots. Depending on the horse's age and the shape of the diastema, we can thoroughly clean these gaps, widen them, or fill them with a special filling to prevent food accumulation.
